Mindfulness for Daily Living

In this eight week mindfulness program participants will be introduced to the concepts of Mindfulness and will engage in a range of practical exercises that can be used to support themselves or others to manage negative thought patterns, be this depression, anxiety, addiction, self-harm or problems with self. The various spiritual exercises will be based on the inspiring work of Jon Kabat-Zinn and are suitable for those of all traditions and those of none.   Participants will also engage in compiling a personal eight-week mindfulness plan. These workshops will be of interest to the general public and those working in the helping professions so that they can support themselves, their family, students or clients

Recognising and Managing Depression

Depression affects mood and thoughts and has an effect on how we feel about ourselves, our daily life and on how we perceive the world around us. This course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the symptoms of depression as well as to suggest and explore strategies on how to cope with its impact on daily life. The course is  specifically designed to cover issues concerning depression involving you or someone close to you. The course will run over 8 evenings, is participative and draws from people’s own understanding and concerns connected with depression.

Focusing – the art of communication

Focusing is a psychotherapeutic intervention that is both a natural and body-oriented process of self-awareness and emotional healing. As a therapeutic tool applied to self or others it enables an individual to engage in an inner dialogue to resolve issues that might otherwise interfere with growth and learning.  It brings into consciousness what lies beneath the surface and which is not yet clear to the logical mind, paying attention to what is felt inside rather than what is ‘known’,  which is called the ‘felt sense’.

Through providing a space to link in with that ‘felt sense’ individuals find they are more open to new insights and unexpected possibilities; this in turn, may give rise to a change in inner experiences or behaviour. In this workshop, participants will learn to get in touch with their own ‘felt sense’ and explore methods to engage in dialogue with their inner knowing in order to achieve resolution and change. They will gain new insights into emotional healing and growth and also learn how to guide another person through the step-by-step program, using gentle facilitating techniques to support themselves and others in this process. The workshop will be of interest to the general public and to those who have a professional interest in working with adults or with children. The focusing skills learnt can be applied to many areas of personal and professional life, including psychotherapy, philosophy, parenting, education, health care, management skills, writing and other creative arts.
