Contemplative Studies is an exciting and emerging discipline, morphed from earlier contemplative and religious practices and experiences, closely linked to the areas of consciousness, mysticism and psychology.
Practices that were traditionally associated with contemplation, such as meditation, prayer and silent time are combined with non-religious practices such as drama, poetry, painting and mindfulness, all of which serve to modernise and maximise the effectiveness of contemplative and introspective practice.
Counselling & Psychotherapy
CFEL provides both Counselling and Psychotherapy, aimed at assisting individuals to overcome challenges and improve mental health and wellbeing. While there are many similarities between Counselling and Psychotherapy, there also are marked differences.
Counselling typically focuses on the present and immediate concerns people may have, supporting them in difficult times and day to day issues. Counselling is not about giving advice, but can be helpful in cases such as life transitions, relationship problems, bereavement, stress management and many other issues. Counselling may also be useful in developing coping mechanisms, exploring options or making decisions.
Psychotherapy tends to delve deeper in order to find root causes of difficulties clients may experience and to promote personal growth. It is often used to address more complex issues such as depression, anxiety disorders, childhood trauma, personality disorders or addiction. The aim would be to process inner conflicts and subconscious issues, which will assist clients in gaining insight into the causes of emotional distress and findings new ways of coping. Such therapies may include hypo-psychotherapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, humanistic, integrative psychotherapy and others.
Despite their differences, both counselling and psychotherapy are geared towards improving mental health and wellbeing.
At the Centre for Experiential Learning, our team of professional, qualified and experienced counsellors, therapists, tutors and coaches provide a range of courses and workshops for individuals and general public, as well as professionals working in the sector, as well as directly helping and supporting clients with a range of issues and concerns as outlined below.
